Chicago Slaughter News Release
HOFFMAN ESTATES - In their final game of the 2010 regular season, the Chicago Slaughter (6-8), the premier indoor football team in the Chicagoland area, fell to the Green Bay Blizzard (10-4) on the road tonight with a final score of 55-30. QB Tavares Woodley started at QB for Chicago and finished the game going 11-24 for 169 yards and 3 touchdowns. WR Reggie Gray finished his day with five receptions for 82 yards and three touchdowns including a 50-yard kick return for one of his TD scores. The Slaughter defense kept the Blizzard in check during the first half, but backup Green Bay QB Willie Copeland led the Blizzard to 46 second half points to clinch the Central North Division title. The Slaughter secured a playoff berth last week and will be on the road next weekend to start their post-season play. There is a good chance these two fierce division rivals are likely to meet for a fourth time in the first round of the playoffs.
It was a defensive battle during the first half of tonight's game as both teams started off with turnovers on pass interceptions from their QBs. Chicago K Chris Nendick put the first points on the board by hitting a 35-yard field goal to go up 3-0 in the first quarter. Green Bay got on the board in the second quarter with K Tino Amancio hitting a 53-yard field goal to tie the score at 3-3. Chicago got into the end zone on their next drive as Woodley connected with Gray on a spectacular 24-yard touchdown pass to put the Slaughter up 9-3. However, BJ Hill returned the following kickoff 46-yards for a Green Bay touchdown to tie the game at 9-9 going into halftime.
With Copeland under center to start the third quarter, the Blizzard scored on RB Randy Bell's 1-yard run to put the Blizzard up 16-9. Nendick responded for the Slaughter nailing a 36-yard field goal cut the deficit to 16-12. Copeland answered with two long touchdown passes to WR Derek Deardorff on consecutive drives to extend their lead to 29-12. Adrian McLeod intercepted a Woodley pass on the ensuing drive and returned it seven yards to make the score 36-12 to end the third quarter scoring.
The fourth quarter was a scoring frenzy with Woodley starting things off in grand fashion throwing a 12-yard touchdown pass to Gray to bring the score to 36-18. After a turnover by each team, Copeland took Green Bay on another scoring drive with his third touchdown pass of the evening to put his team up 42-18. Woodley answered back finding Chris Goffer, who played double duty on both offense and defense tonight, for a 31-yard touchdown to cut the score to 42-24. On the ensuing kickoff, Hill had a second return touchdown of the game to give the Blizzard a 49-24 lead. Gray returned the favor, as he returned the following kickoff 50 yards for his third touchdown to make the score 49-30. Copeland ended the scoring by connecting with Blizzard WR Scott Burnoski giving Green Bay the win with a final score of 55-30 to end the game.
This is the final game of the regular season and post season play is scheduled to begin next weekend. Playoff format will consist of 16 teams, the top team from each of the 6 Divisions plus 5 Wild Cards in each conference, competing in 4 rounds to determine the United Bowl Champion. During the first round, teams ranked 1-4 will host games versus teams ranked 5-8 in each conference based on geographic proximity. Following the outcome, teams will be re-ranked 1-4 based on regular season records in each conference and the 1st seed will host the 4th seed, while the 2nd seed will host the 3rd seed in each conference for Conference Semi-Finals. Conference Finals will be played the following weekend leading to the League Championship game to crown the 2010 IFL United Bowl Champion.
Further details surrounding the 2010 playoffs will be forthcoming over the next week. For more information, contact the Chicago Slaughter at (847) 310-3190 or visit the Chicago Slaughter website at www.chicagoslaughter.com.
