Chicago Sky to Host Nothing But Nets Night
July 26, 2007 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Chicago Sky News Release
WHAT: The Chicago Sky is hosting a special game night for Nothing But Nets, a grassroots campaign to prevent malaria by providing insecticide-treated bed nets. After raising $400 during the Sky's last home game, the Sky and Nothing but Nets are working together to encourage fans to save even more African lives by collecting money during a timeout in Friday's game against the Phoenix Mercury. The Sky will also auction off autographed BuzzKill t-shirts that the players will be wearing during warm-ups. It only costs $10 to provide an insecticide-treated bed net that can prevent malaria. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will match all donations dollar for dollar.
The Nothing But Nets campaign was created by the United Nations Foundation, and the WNBA, NBA and Major League Soccer are partners. Chicago Fire star Diego Gutierrez will be at the Sky game on Friday night with this family to lend his support to the fundraising effort. Chicago Sky fans can also visit www.NothingButNets.net to send a net and save a life.
