Cheryl Ford to Miss Remainder of 2007
July 26, 2007 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Detroit Shock News Release
Auburn Hills, MI - The Detroit Shock announced today that 2007 WNBA All-Star Game MVP and 2003 WNBA Rookie of the Year Cheryl Ford will miss the remainder of the regular season due to a left knee femoral chondral defect. The injury was diagnosed following an MRI administered Wednesday afternoon.
Ford suffered the injury at Indiana on July 20 to the same knee that was diagnosed with a femoral bone bruise after Detroit's June 15 win over the Connecticut Sun. That initial injury caused Ford to miss six of the teams next seven games. Overall, Detroit is 5-3 this season in games that Ford has missed due to injury.
Ford is leading the WNBA in rebounding this season with 11.2 per game and her 13.0 points per game scoring average makes her one of two players (Seattle's Lauren Jackson) in the WNBA averaging a double-double on the season.
