Chicago Shamrox Makes NLL All-Rookie Team
Hoffman Estates, Ill. May 8, 2007 - Chicago Shamrox rookie forward Bill McGlone has been named to the 2007 National Lacrosse League All-Rookie Team. McGlone, a rookie out of the University of Maryland, tallied 40 points (22 goals, 18 assists) in his rookie season with the expansion Chicago Shamrox, including a league-leading five short-handed goals.
"It's a tremendous honor to be named to the All-Rookie Team." said McGlone. "To be honest, I am surprised to be named to this team considering all the rookie talent in the league in 2007, including the rookies on our team like Josh Wasson, Cody Jacobs, Kyle DuPont and Mike Kirk. I am proud to represent the Shamrox on the All-Rookie Team."
McGlone was selected in the fourth round (41st overall) of the 2006 NLL Entry Draft. Prior to joining the Shamrox, McGlone had very little experience with indoor lacrosse, but adapted to the different style of play quickly, finishing second on the Shamrox with 22 goals, including several highlight-reel goals from behind the net. In his first career game on January 6, McGlone tallied a hat-trick in a win over the New York Titans and added two more goals in the season-ending victory over the Philadelphia Wings on April 14.
"We knew that Bill would have a great season after we saw him for the first time in training camp." said Shamrox Head Coach/GM Jamie Batley. "He showed that he has the talent that it takes to play in the NLL and he carved a niche for himself on the penalty kill. Bill will continue to develop and be a scoring threat in this league. We are proud of his accomplishments this season."
McGlone joined the Shamrox after a stellar collegiate career with the Maryland Terrapins, where he served as captain in 2006 and was named to the 2006 ACC All-Tournament Team.
The Chicago Shamrox finished their inaugural season at 6-10 with a dominating, 17-11 win over the Philadelphia Wings on Saturday, April 14 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates. This Saturday, the Rochester Knighthawks visit the Arizona Sting in the 2007 NLL Championship presented by EDGE Active Care at 3:00 pm CDT at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Ariz. The game can be seen live on VERSUS and heard on SIRIUS Satellite Radio channel 140.
