Chicago Machine Outgunned by Outlaws 17-12, fall to 0-9

The Chicago Machine produced a fury of action scoring 6 straight goals to close out the 3rd quarter and open the 4th, but ran out of time as the Denver Outlaws put three more in the back of the net to drop the Machine to 0-9. The Machine was led Sean Morris and Dan Flannery, both in their first year of MLL action, with 5 points each. Flannery scored 4 goals while Kevin Leveille added a hat trick to the Chicago scoring action.
The first quarter was all Outlaws, outscoring the Machine 5-1, but Chicago battled back to within 1 goal before yielding in front of 12,739 at Investco Field @ Mile High Stadium. Within the Machine's 6 goal run, came two goals by Flannery and one by Zach Hefner, his 1st career MLL goal. Mike Gabel made 21 saves on 37 shots on goal in the loss. The Machine brought a tough defensive effort to Denver, led by bruisers Damien Davis, Michael Culver and Zach Gagel and held Denver's league leading potent offense to 17 goals. New Machine acquisition, Jake Deane, who joined the team after a trade involving Long Island and Baltimore, won 10 out of 26 face-offs.
Denver was led by Josh Sims with 3 goals (1 two-point) and Brian Langtry with 2 goals and 3 assists.
"We started off a little slow, but came around and really gave ourselves a shot at it in the end," said Machine Head Coach Kevin Finneran. "We saw more strength in our effort, but there remains work to be done."
The Chicago Machine come back home for their final two home games against the Los Angeles Riptide and the Denver Outlaws in the next two weeks. Face-off is set for 2:00 pm on July 29th as the Machine continue to search for the elusive first victory in franchise history.
