San Francisco Dragons News Release

San Francisco, CA - In front of a crowd of 4,041 at historic Kezar Stadium in San Francisco, the Los Angeles Riptide (4-5) completed a two game-sweep of the San Francisco Dragons (5-4) 15-11.

The Dragons could not rebound from a 17-10 loss Saturday in Los Angeles, and the normally explosive Dragons offense seemed lethargic. For the second time in as many games, the Dragons were held scoreless for an entire quarter, trailing the Riptide 0-5 at the start of the second frame.

Andrew Combs, the Bud Light Player of the game, scored the first three goals of the game. All told, the Riptide attackman tallied 7 points (6 G, 1 A).

The Dragons trailed 6-0 by the time Chris Rotelli finally put the Dragons on the board with a two-point goal two and a half minutes into the second quarter. The two-pointer marked the beginning of a 6-0 run by San Francisco to make the contest close again, and they were knotted with LA at six at the half.

The Dragons outscored the Riptide 5-4 in the third quarter but the Riptide, lead by Michael Watson (3 G, 1 A), dominated the fourth, outscoring the Dragons 5-1.

Leading the Dragons in points was midfielder Chris Rotelli with 7 (1 2-pt G, 4 A) followed by Joe Yevoli with 4 (1 G, 3 A) and Matt Alrich with 3 (3 G).

The two wins by the Riptide this weekend were both major upsets. Coming into the series, LA could have been eliminated from playoff contention with two losses to the Dragons, but as it stands now, their playoff hopes are still alive. The Dragons and the Riptide face each other again at Kezar Stadium August 5th at 1:00 PM PDT.
