Rookies Score Big for Chicago
Chicago's 23-man roster includes their top 5 draft picks from this year's collegiate draft. Libertyville, IL, native Steven Brooks and Mike Leveille, Brooks' teammate on the 2008 Syracuse NCAA Lacrosse Championship squad and brother of Chicago Machine star Kevin Leveille, are among the rookies remaining on the roster. Will Barrow, Terry Kimener and Bud Petit are the other top 2008 draft picks who made the final cut.
"The 2008 draft was very good for us," said Chicago Machine President John Meister. "We are the youngest team in the MLL but we're bullish on the future we have created with these fantastic new players. They are working well with our veteran stars and already contributing significantly on the field." Brooks and M. Leveille are ranked among the MLL's top 5 scoring rookies this season and Kimener is in the top 10.
The Chicago Machine are 1-5 overall, but four of the losses have been by a single goal, two in overtime. The Chicago Machine plays the Denver Outlaws at TOYOTA PARK in suburban Bridgeview on Sunday, June 29, at 3:30 pm. The game is preceded at 1:30 pm by an alumni game between New Trier High School and Loyola Academy, two of Illinois' most storied lacrosse schools.
