Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Nearly halfway into the USHL season, the Chicago Steel (19-5-5-0; 43 pts.) currently reside in first place in the Eastern Conference with the most points in the league as the team travels to Green Bay for two contests at Resch Center in Wisconsin against the Green Bay Gamblers (12-12-0-1; 25 pts.) who are locked in a three-way tie for fifth place in the East.
The games on Friday, Jan. 7 and Saturday, Jan. 8 are both slated for 7:05 pm CT puck drops.
In the club's most recent games, Chicago split a two-game homestand against the Madison Capitols (14-13-2-0; 30 pts.) with a 9-3 offensive outburst on Dec. 30 and a 4-2 loss on Jan. 2.
In the season-high nine-goal performance on Dec. 30, six different Steel skaters reached the back of the net including a five-point night (1G, 4A) from forward Jackson Blake and two-goal games from Nick Moldenhauer, Jack Harvey and Joe Miller.
The following game on Jan. 2 provided the highlight of the USHL season thus far from the league's leading goal-scorer, Adam Fantilli. The University of Michigan commit went viral with his lacrosse-style goal, making a 180 degree turn before flying behind the net, picking up the puck with his stick and tucking it in the top left corner of the cage for his 22nd marker of the season.
The Green Bay Gamblers enter the weekend as winners of four of their last five outings, dating back to Dec. 11, 2021.
Gamblers forward Jackson Hallum, tied for the team lead in points with 30 (14G, 16A) in 25 games played, led Green Bay to a 5-2 win on Dec. 31 over the Madison Capitols at Resch Center in Wisconsin with a goal and two helpers. Hallum was selected in the third round (#91 overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights. In five career matchups against the Chicago Steel, Hallum has five total goals.
The Steel have earned three out of a possible four points in two matchups against the Gamblers this season with a 2-1 overtime loss at Resch Center on Oct. 22 and a 6-2 victory on Nov. 5 at Fox Valley Ice Arena. Including the contests this weekend, Chicago and Green Bay are scheduled to match up eight more times during the 2021-2022 slate.
After the pair of road games, Chicago returns to Fox Valley Ice Arena for three consecutive home contests starting with a two-game set against the Youngstown Phantoms on Friday, Jan. 14 for Olympics Night and Saturday, Jan. 15 for Star Wars Night and a post-game skate for fans.
Tickets start at just $10 and are available in person at the Steel Box Office at Fox Valley Ice Arena, by phone at 855-51-STEEL and online at chicagosteelhockeyteam.com. The Steel now offer single-game ticket discounts for kids 12 and under and military.
