Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
DAVENPORT, Iowa â Chicago Rush fullback / linebacker Bob McMillen needs just two more yards to become the fifth player in AFL history to rush for 1,000 career yards when the Rush host the Tampa Bay Storm this Sunday at 2 p.m. CDT on the AFL on NBC seen locally on KWQC-TV6.
McMillen, with 134 yards this year, has set a Rush record for rushing yards in a season, breaking Jamie McGourty's team record of 122 yards set last year. He currently ranks fourth in the AFL in rushing. In addition, McMillen has 52 career rushing touchdowns, which ranks him 6th on the AFL's all-time list. Earlier this season, McMillen became the first player in AFL history to rush for 100 or more yards in six-consecutive seasons. The Rush (6-2) rank third among AFL teams in scoring at 56.6 points per game and are lead offensively by quarterback Raymond Philyaw.
Philyaw has been incredibly accurate having his streak of 199 consecutive passes without an interception come to an end in the second quarter last Sunday against Las Vegas. For the season, Philyaw has completed 127-of-198 passes for 1,687 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also has rushed for a career-high nine touchdowns this season.
The Storm will try and contain Philyaw and the Rush offense especially in the red-zone. The Storm are ranked third in the AFL when called on for a defensive stand inside the red-zone, allowing only 152 points (21 touchdowns, two field goals) this season. AFL veteran wide receiver / defensive back Carlos James picked up his first interception of the season in Week 8 against Georgia. The interception marked James' first interception since the 2000 season, but his 35th career interception. Wide receiver / linebacker Lawrence Samuels has 18 career interceptions and will be looking for more against Philyaw. Be sure to tune into high scoring, heart stopping action of the Arena Football every Sunday on the AFL on NBC.
