
Chicago Fire Sign Forward Matthew Fondy

CHICAGO (Saturday, July 5, 2014) Ã-- The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Saturday that the club has signed forward Matthew Fondy. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Fondy will be available for selection by head coach Frank Yallop when the Fire take on Sporting Kansas City at Sporting Park on Sunday, July 6 at 2 p.m. CT (ESPN/La Ley 107.9 FM).
"Matt is a physical presence and will provide needed depth and cover, especially as we enter the busiest month of our schedule," said Yallop.
Fondy signed with Chivas USA on Aug. 30, 2013 after scoring ten goals and tallying two assists in ten matches with the LA Blues, helping the side reach the USL PRO quarterfinals in 2013. Fondy made his MLS debut against the Seattle Sounders FC on Sept. 4, 2013 and appeared in eight matches, starting one for Chivas USA before he was waived on June 26.
The Northern California native attended UC Santa Cruz and was named 2009 NSCAA Division III All-American before signing with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USL PRO) on March 15, 2011.
