Chicago Blaze to Play Exhibition Games this Weekend
January 6, 2005 - National Women's Basketball League (NWBL)
Chicago Blaze News Release
Naperville, IL - With just a couple of practices under its belt, the Chicago Blaze will play two exhibition games versus the Colorado Chill this weekend. Saturday's game will be played in South Dakota, the home state of Chill star Becky Hammon, and Sunday evening's game will be played in Fort Collins.
"Even though the players have just gotten their feet wet, this gives our young players a taste of the competition, and will give them something to build upon as we prepare for next week's regular season games," said Blaze General Manger Robert Graham. "This also gives us an opportunity to evaluate our players in a game situation." Tamika Catchings, Ebony Hoffman and Coretta Brown will not travel with the team but will be in uniform when the Blaze opens January 15 versus the 2004 NWBL Champion Dallas Fury in Dallas. They will return on Sunday, January 16 to face the Colorado Chill at Merner Fieldhouse located at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.
The NWBL showcases professional women basketball players from across the nation, including players from the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) who choose to stay in the U.S. to play during the off-season. 2005 teams include the Birmingham Power, CHICAGO BLAZE, Colorado Chill, Dallas Fury, Lubbock Hawks, and the San Jose Spiders.
