
Chicago Blaze on Fire in Home Opener

Naperville, IL - The Chicago Blaze opened their 2004 season on fire as they defeated the Colorado Chill 84-70. The Blaze were outscored 8-2 at the start of the game before going on a 44-21 run to close out the first half. Jamie Redd (Univ. of Washington) led the Blaze with 18 first half points, including a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the half.
Redd finished with 27 points to lead all scorers. Tamika Catchings (WNBA Indiana Fever) added a double-double finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Taquilla Allen (University of Alabama) chipped in 15 points.
Kate Cronin (Colorado State) led the Chill in scoring with 16 points to lead four Chill players in double figures. The Blaze will travel to Colorado for a re-match on Sunday, January 25th.
The Blaze signed forward Lindsey Yamasaki (WNBA New York Liberty) prior to the game. She is expected to add much needed stability to the Blaze front court.
The Chicago Blaze is entering its third season in the NWBL. The Blaze will play a 22-game schedule through March 23 and will play its home games at Merner Fieldhouse located at North Central College in Naperville, IL.
The National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) showcases professional women basketball players from across the nation, including players from the WNBA who choose to stay in the U.S. to play during the off-season. The season is played from January through April and the teams include the Birmingham Power, CHICAGO BLAZE, Colorado Chill, Dallas Fury, Houston Stealth, and Springfield Spirit.
