Chicago Blaze Lose Williams and Van Horn for the 2005 Season

February 19, 2005 - National Women's Basketball League (NWBL)
Chicago Blaze News Release

Naperville, IL - The Chicago Blaze today announced that they would be without All-Star Kim Williams and back-up forward Trina Van Horn for the remainder of the season. Williams left yesterday to compete internationally. "Naturally, it saddens us that Kim will not be with us the remainder of the season," said Blaze General Manager Robert Graham, "She epitomizes what the game of basketball and this league is all about - opportunity - and taking advantage of the opportunity. We will obviously miss her on the court - but more importantly we will miss Kim Williams, the person." Williams would be eligible to re-join the team for the playoffs, but she must play one additional regular season game to meet the league minimum thirteen (13) game requirement.

Van Horn went on the injured list on January 30 with a stress fracture. She was seen by team doctor Kathleen Weber on Wednesday and advised that she would be unable to play for the remainder of the season. According to league rules, the Blaze can replace Van Horn on the team's roster with a player that is not currently in the WNBA, and that player would be eligible for the playoffs even though they would not have played the minimum thirteen games.

The Chicago Blaze' next game is this Sunday, February 20, 3pm, at North Central College Merner Field House against the Dallas Fury.

The NWBL showcases professional women basketball players from across the nation, including players from the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) who choose to stay in the U.S. to play during the off-season. 2005 teams include the Birmingham Power, CHICAGO BLAZE, Colorado Chill, Dallas Fury, Lubbock Hawks, and the San Jose Spiders.
