Chicago Blaze Beat Lubbock To Even Record

Naperville, IL –Chicago evened their record on the season at 3-3 with an 87-78 win against Lubbock on Saturday evening. Guard Coretta Brown paced the Blaze with 17 points as Chicago placed six players in double figures.

Lubbock (3-2) built a 39-38 lead at the half behind the hot shooting of Kelly Mazzante and Molly Creamer who combined for 23 points.

The second half turned out to be half of runs. Chicago (3-3) used a 13-2 run to take a 51-41 lead in the first three minutes of the second half as LaTonya Johnson, who finished with 11 points, nailed three consecutive three-point baskets. Lubbock cut the lead to 53-46 before Chicago went on a 17-4 run to take a commanding 70-50 lead. Lubbock responded with a 21-9 run to close within 79-71 with just over three minutes left in the game. The Blaze were able to maintain at least a six point lead the rest of the way as they closed out the games with free throws down the stretch.

In addition to Brown and Johnson, Ebony Hoffman added 13 points, three rebounds and three assists while Kim Williams and Tamika Catchings each contributed 13 points. Guard Keisha Anderson finished with 10 points and 11 assists. The Blaze dished out a season-high 25 assists in the contest.

Mazzante had a game-high 27 points for Lubbock while Creamer finished with 13 points. Jocelyn Penn and Shereka Wright contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Chicago travels to Dallas tomorrow to take on the Fury.
