Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers today announced that they have agreed to terms with forward Kyle Hagel on a one-year AHL contract.

Hagel, 31, recently completed his second consecutive season with the Checkers while tying his career high with five goals and posting 10 points, the latter of which marked his highest total since the 2010-11 campaign. The 6 foot, 205-pound native of Hamilton, Ontario, also posted 164 penalty minutes to lead the Checkers for the second consecutive season.

In both of his seasons as a Checker, Hagel, one of the team's alternate captains, earned the club's Man of the Year award for his outstanding work in the community. Hagel, who has also played for Rochester, Rockford, Peoria, Hamilton and Portland over the course of his eight previous seasons as a professional, has captured his team's community award for six straight seasons and won the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award as the league's overall winner in 2015.

In 349 career AHL games dating back to the 2008-09 campaign, Hagel, a Princeton graduate and co-founder of Hockey Players 4 Kids charities and the social media platform Shnarped, has accumulated 39 points (14g, 25a) and 953 penalty minutes. He enters the 2016-17 campaign ranked third on Charlotte's all-time penalty minute list with 318.
