The Charlotte Knights defeated the Gwinnett Braves 9-4 on Sunday afternoon at Coolray Field. For the fifth game in a row, the G-Braves gave up double-digit hits to their opponent. Gwinnett has lost their last five games and seven of their last eight. Gwinnett (42-49) remains in third place in the International League South and 13.5 games behind Durham. Charlotte (47-45) is in second place in the IL South, now 9 games behind Durham.

It Was Over When: In the top of the 1st inning, Charlotte scored 3 runs and gained a lead they would never give up.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Starter Vladimir Nunez (0-1) was credited with the loss. He allowed 6 runs (4 ER) on 7 hits in 3 innings. Cristhian Martinez pitched 1.1 innings and allowed 3 R/ER on 7 hits.

At the plate: Nate McLouth went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He hit a home run to lead off the bottom of the 1st inning. J.C. Boscan was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: With seven innings of work, starter Brandon Hynick (1-0) earned his first win on the Triple-A level this season.

At the plate: Brent Morel went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI.

On Deck: Gwinnett will be off from July 12-14 for the Triple-A All-Star Break. The Triple-A All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday, July 14 from Allentown, PA - home of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. The G-Braves return to action on Thursday, July 15 when they travel to Coca-Cola Field to take on the Buffalo Bisons in the first game of a four-game series. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
