
Charleston Battery to face Jamaica's Village United

Charleston Battery News Release
Charleston SC. The Charleston Battery will play the Wray & Nephew Jamaican Premier League side Village United in a pre-season exhibition on Saturday, April 15 at Blackbaud Stadium. The Battery has signed Village United & Jamaican men's national team defender, Shane Crawford; Crawford will play for the Charleston Battery in the international exhibition. Jamaican winger Omar Daley has also agreed to terms, Daley joins the Battery from JPL side, Portmore United.

"We are excited to bring a Jamaican Premier League team to Charleston to showcase more international soccer to the Lowcountry fans. Village United is fighting for third position in a difficult league and should be a great test towards the culmination of our pre season."
"One of our new signings Shane Crawford hails from Village United and has just arrived after receiving visa clearance. Shane is a talented left sided player who could be utilized in a couple of key positions; he's been selected to the full Jamaican national team and his experience should prove beneficial to our squad."
"Omar Daley, another Jamaican international became available after a successful run with Portmore United in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. He is a very quick and exciting player that brings us a dimension that we have lacked the last couple of years; he adds some needed goal-scoring punch."
The game versus Village United is Charleston's final home match before the regular season; tickets are only $10 general admission, 2006 season ticket holders can purchase seats for $5, there will be no charge for children 14 years and under and no charge for parking. The event will also feature a massive Easter Egg hunt on the stadium field at half-time; gates open at 6:30 PM - kick off is set for 7:30 PM.
Village United is currently in 4th place in the Wray & Nephew Jamaican Premier League with three games remaining. Village were promoted in 2000 after winning the Jamaican National A League and have been in the Wray & Nephew Jamaican Premier League ever since.
Village United's roster includes several Jamaican internationals including Newton Sterling and Teofore Bennett plus the Charleston Battery's newest signing Shane Crawford; Crawford will play for the Battery in the exhibition. United also has several former Jamaican internationals including Nicardo Folkes, Athol Franklyn and Kirk Hendricks and one Liberian international, Edmund Kingston.
Shane Crawford
Jamaican international Shane Crawford joins the Charleston Battery from Wray & Nephew Jamaican Premier League side Village United. A native of Kingston, Jamaica Crawford, 6-0, 165 lbs, 26yrs. spent the 2005 season with the USL 2 Harrisburg City Islanders where he played 18 games scoring 2 goals and adding one assist.
Crawford is a member of the Jamaican men's national team and is with the squad for the upcoming international friendly with the United States (April 11, 7:00 PM, ESPN2).
Omar Daley
Omar Daley joins the Charleston Battery from Wray & Nephew Jamaican Premier League side Portmore United. Daley, 5-10, 170 lbs., 25 yrs joined Portmore in 2005 after previously playing for Reading FC and Preston North End of the English Championship.
Daley is a current member of the Jamaican men's national team; he has been capped 20 times and scored nine international goals. Daley is also expected to be in the Jamaican squad for the upcoming international friendly with the United States (April 11, 7:00 PM, ESPN2).
