Vermont Frost Heaves News Release

South Burlington, VT. After spending a season with the Vermont Frost Heaves during their run to an ABA Championship, 6'4" forward Kerry Lyons will remain with the team this season as an assistant to coach Will Voigt.

"I'm very excited to move from the role of player to coach," said Lyons, who was a star at Milton High and Lyndon State. "Last year was such an unbelievable ride. Hopefully, I can help the transition of new players to the team and continue the growth of the returnees. I learned a lot about playing the game last year and can't wait to learn more about coaching it."

"Kerry brings experience as well as a great work ethic and tremendous character to our coaching staff," said Voigt. "Having been in our program as a player, he has a unique perspective and will provide a valuable link between the coaches and players. Plus, Kerry was the Cinderella story of last year. To go from not playing competitive basketball for eight years, to winning an ABA Championship, speaks volumes to what you can achieve with hardwork and a great attitude."

With Lyons joining another founding Heave, Stowe's Dana Martin, in retirement, the Vermont roster currently includes only one local player, Burlington's B.J. Robertson. Candidates to help the team repopulate its Green Mountain representation will gather at St. Michael's College this weekend for the team's Vermont Tryout Camp. The camp will take place on July 28 and 29, and spectators are welcome.

Robertson, Martin and Lyons all successfully navigated the team's tryout process a year ago. "I can't wait to see which Vermonters step up to accept the challenge of being a Frost Heave," said Lyons.

Added Voigt, "We're all excited to see who'll follow in Kerry's footsteps this weekend at the tryout camp."

Players interested in trying out may download application forms online at www.vermontfrostheaves.com/camps/tryout, and get more information by calling Michael Healey at 802 578 7056. Registrations will be accepted at the door on Saturday until 9 a.m. Or visit www.abalive.com.
