CFL Mobile gains home team advantage
Published on May 2, 2006 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
Toronto, ON and Vancouver, BC - (May 2, 2006) - Hot on the heels of last year's successful CFL Mobile International service launch, the CFL and Setanta Mobile are proud to announce the introduction of fan-centric mobile services in Canada, giving football fans across the country value added content and insider access to the Canadian game from the palm of their hands.
CFL Mobile provides a one-stop information source to sports fans on the go, including comprehensive, real-time coverage of the latest news and stats from across the CFL. The service, which launches with the start of the 2006 preseason and extends through to the 94th Grey Cup championship game, enables CFL fans across Canada and the United States to get into the game no matter where they are.
Using Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), SMS and personalization products, devoted fans and casual viewers will have the opportunity to receive real-time scores and stats, breaking news and stories, player bios and team-by-team updates. This new initiative also allows CFL fans to customize their phones with Canadian football wallpaper and ring tones, and participate in polls and trivia in competition for a chance to win CFL prizes throughout the year.
"As the mobile market continues to advance and as the line between sport and entertainment continues to blur, content access for our fans over all digital media platforms is essential," said Chris McCracken, Senior Director, Broadcast and Media Assets for the CFL. "We're pleased to extend our relationship with Setanta into Canada. They are a proven leader in mobile content creation and delivery, and will be an integral component of the on-going relationship we have with CFL fans across Canada".
In a second-phase launch scheduled for mid-season, CFL and Setanta will also introduce downloadable video and MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service), which will highlight current and historical on-field Canadian football game action.
"Despite the late-season launch for CFL Mobile services last year, we saw tremendous success within the international sports fan communities and we are excited to now be bringing these services home to Canadian football fans," said Anthony Dillistone, Executive Director for North America and Asia for Setanta Mobile. "We are proud to be working with the CFL once again to introduce our premium service, arguably the most comprehensive coverage anywhere, crafted specifically for Canada with a goal of putting the game in the hands of every fan in the country."
