Chicago, Illinois (US) and Toronto (Canada) -- October 8, 2004 -- The Canadian Football League is expanding its coverage in the United States with an agreement to carry its fast-paced game to a three state service area on Comcast SportsNet Chicago, the premiere regional sports network in the Chicago area.

CFL broadcasts began Friday, October 1, as part of Comcast SportsNet Chicago's regular weekend programming, further broadening a professional sports lineup that includes the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks, the National Basketball Association's Chicago Bulls and Major League Baseball's Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox.

Comcast SportsNet Chicago's coverage area includes Illinois, Iowa and Indiana. The network joins Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, as well as Comcast local channels in Detroit and Atlanta which already carry CFL football as part of their sports programming.

"The number of networks that have signed up for CFL games this season in primetime validates the market demand for high-quality live sports events, particularly on the weekends," said Richard Stone, President of Trajectory Sports & Media Group. "In addition to offering sports fans more hard-hitting professional football action, this new programming also provides additional opportunities for advertisers."

Several hundred U.S. players from top football conferences around the country including the Big 10, Gateway and MAC West are currently playing in the CFL. NFL stars such as Doug Flutie, Warren Moon and Jeff Garcia formally played for the Canadian Football League.

Comcast SportsNet Chicago's coverage of CFL games was arranged by Trajectory Sports & Media Group, which has the marketing responsibility for Canadian football coverage in the United States and internationally.

Other networks carrying CFL action as the result of Trajectory Sports & Media Group agreements are America One Sports, Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast, Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, Comcast Detroit, New England Sports Network, Madison Square Garden, Empire Sports, Cox Sports TV, Altitude Sports & Entertainment, Fox Sports Middle East, and the North American Sports Network.
