Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The Pensacola Pelicans announced today they were a part of a two-league relief effort for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Members of the Central Baseball League and the Can-Am League in the northeastern U.S. have already combined to donate $10,000 worth of supplies to the Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts.
The two leagues collected money and supplies from the 16 teams, managers, owners, general managers and umpires including Kevin Winn, the Supervisor of Umpires for the two leagues.
Supplies were delivered on Saturday, Sept. 10 to a drop-off station in Lafayette, LA. Winn and fellow umpire Bobby Entrekin drove down from Shreveport, LA with the supplies while the Shreveport Sports' mascot was present to lighten the mood and crack a few smiles.
Following Hurricane Ivan in 2004, the Pelicans pledged 10 percent of all season ticket sales to the Florida Hurricane Relief Fund and sold the "Miracles Happen" wristbands, with all the proceeds benefiting Rebuild Northwest Florida.
"Miracles Happen" wristbands are still available at the Pelicans office. For more information on the wristbands and Rebuild Northwest Florida, contact the Pelicans office at 850-934-8444 or visit the on-line store at www.pensacolapelicans.com.
