Portland Forest Dragons News Release

The Northern League Central All-Stars defeated the Northern League East All-Stars by a score of 12-3 in front of a sold-out crowd of 4,972 at Le Stade Municipal Stadium in Quebec City, Quebec. Hundreds of fans were turned away at the gates.

Both teams got on the board early, each plating a run in the first. The Central's lone run in the inning came from a solo homer by Lincoln OF Dustin Delucchi off of New Jersey RHP Joel Bennett. The East answered when Brockton 2B Carlos Rosario scored on an error after earlier doubling.

The Central jumped back into the lead by scoring twice in the top of the third but the East climbed within one on a RBI single by Allentown C Ryan Bordenick in the bottom of the fourth inning. Winnipeg 3B Brent Sachs extended the Central Division's lead to 5-2 on a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning.

Sachs added another RBI on a single in the top of seventh. The Central scored six runs in the seventh, which was capped off by a two-run blast by Gary C Carlos Pagan. The Pagan homer put the Central up by nine and solid relief pitching preserved the lead as they limited the East Division bats to two runs. Fargo-Moorhead 1B Brian Becker added an insurance run in the top of the ninth by blasting a solo shot off of Quebec RHP Mark Cisar.

The MVP of the game was awarded to Brent Sachs who finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a homer, three RBIs and three runs scored. Joliet LHP Brian Mazone picked up the win after going two innings, allowing no earned runs on two hits. Adirondack LHP Chad Ward picked up the hard-luck loss after allowing one earned run in two innings of relief work.
