Central Baseball League names weekly award winners

SportsTicker, the official statistician of the Central League, has named Fort Worth 1B Jordan Foster and San Angelo RHP David McWatters Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week of July 4-10.
In six games, Foster went 12-for-27, good for a .444 average, with six doubles, a triple, a home run and 15 RBI as the Cats went 5-1 on the week, sprinting to a 10-3 second-half start. His best night of the week came on Wednesday in Fort Worth's 14-2 win over Pensacola, when he went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI. The Escondido, California, native is seventh in the league with a .333 average to go along with 48 RBI and 29 runs scored.
A 24th-round pick of Detroit in the 2004 draft out of Lamar University, the 23-year-old spent last season with the Tigers of the Gulf Coast League, hitting .213. While at Lamar, he hit .363 as a senior in 2004, and was selected as an All-American in 2003 after setting new school season records with a .417 average, 96 hits and 29 doubles.
After being selected Pitcher of the Week last week, San Angelo's David McWatters followed it up by giving two excellent performances on Monday vs. Coastal Bend and on Saturday vs. Edinburg. Monday, the Glen Waverly, Australia, native threw seven innings for the victory, striking out eight while giving up just one run. On Saturday, McWatters got his fifth win of the season, limiting the Roadrunners to one run on four hits while striking out seven. He is currently fourth in the Central League with 83.2 innings pitched.
The twenty-six-year-old is in his fifth season of professional baseball, after spending the last four seasons with Kalamazoo of the Frontier League. Last year, he led the league with 20 starts and went 5-8 with a 4.50 ERA. He was signed by Kalamazoo out of Bellevue College in Nebraska.
