Celtics sign Jam Forward Pinkney to 10-Day Contract

GREENVILLE, S.C., April 4, 2007 -The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed Bakersfield Jam forward Kevinn Pinkney to a 10-day contract. Pinkney is the 19th GATORADE Call-Up this season from the NBA Development League.

Including Pinkney, 15 D-League players have earned GATORADE Call-Ups this season. Fifteen players and 19 call-ups are both league highs for a season.

Pinkney, a 6'10", 245 pound forward from the University of Nevada, was an D-League All-Star this season and a member of the All-NBA Development League Second Team. Pinkney averaged 18.6 points per game, which tied him for seventh in the NBA Development League, while averaging 7.2 rebounds per game. Undrafted in the 2005 NBA Draft, Pinkney averaged a career high 12.5 points and 7.7 rebounds as a senior for Nevada.

Pinkney will be available to play for the Celtics tonight when they take on the Milwaukee Bucks at the Bradley Center and he will wear number 51.

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Anaheim Arsenal (Calif.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Bakersfield Jam (Calif.), Colorado 14ers (Broomfield), Dakota Wizards (Bismarck, N.D.), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Idaho Stampede (Boise), Los Angeles D-Fenders (Calif.), Sioux Falls Skyforce (S.D.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.). Expansion teams for the 2007-08 season have already been announced in Orem, Utah, the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas and Des Moines, Iowa.

The D-League continues to develop talent from across all disciplines for the NBA's 30 teams and the entire NBA umbrella. In addition to the assignment of 24 players to D-League affiliates, there have also been 19 GATORADE Call-Ups from the D-League to the NBA this season. Additionally, every referee hired by the NBA since 2002 has worked in the D-League, while coaches, athletic trainers and front office executives are also being developed.
