CEDAR RAPIDS, IA --- The Major Arena Soccer League is proud to announce the addition of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as the newest team for the 2015-16 season.

MASL Vice President of Business Development and Chairman of Expansion Kevin Milliken introduced the team today at a news conference at US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids. Members of its ownership group, which also operates the Cedar Rapids Titans of the Indoor Football League, represented the team at the event.

"It is great for our league to bring in such a committed group of owners, who have also found success at building a professional sports franchise," Milliken said. "This group has seen success on the football field, and we believe they will be successful with arena soccer as well. And, it will be great to have another rival for our teams in the Midwest."

The team will play its home games at the US Cellular Center, which has a capacity of roughly 5,300 for indoor football and soccer. The Cedar Rapids Titans are in their fourth season as part of the Indoor Football League, and they were awarded the league's Franchise of the Year award for the 2014 season. The Titans currently average more then 4,300 fans per game.

As part of today's festivities, Cedar Rapids owners announced that the team's name would be decided as part of a "Name the Team" Contest. Details on how to submit entries into the contest can be found at www.crprosoccer.com . The lucky fan who is first to choose the winning name will win a four pack of season tickets for the team's inaugural season.

This will be Cedar Rapids' first foray into professional soccer. The region is home to more than 12,000 youth soccer players, and home to Mount Mercy, Coe and Cornell Colleges, which field both men's' and women's' soccer programs.

"We believe that the greater Cedar Rapids area is ready for the fast-paced action of arena soccer," said Chris Kokalis, General Manager/Co-Owner of the Cedar Rapids group. "We are looking forward to introducing our football fans to this great version of futbol."

With the inclusion of Cedar Rapids, the MASL has 24 teams committed for the 2015-16 season. The league's 20-game regular season will kickoff Nov. 1, 2015, with the season scheduled to end Feb. 28, 2016.

More details about the 2015-16 season will be announced in the coming weeks. Season tickets for the Cedar Rapids franchise are on sale now and available for purchase by visiting www.crprosoccer.com.
