CBA's American Conference All-Stars announced
January 24, 2007 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release
ALBANY, NY (January 24, 2007) -The Continental Basketball Association is pleased to announce the ten basketball players who will represent the American Conference at the 2007 All-Star Classic, which will be held February 6 in Butte, Montana. The American Conference squad features two first-round draft picks from the 2006 CBA College Entry Draft, as well as the CBA's leading scorer and the league's free throw percentage leader. The squad will be coached by Albany Patroons head coach and former NBA All-Star Micheal Ray Richardson.
The Indiana Alley Cats will have four representatives on the All-Star team; all playing the guard position. Veterans Erick Barkley (6'1", 170, St. John's) and Shaun Fountain (5'11", 180, Wisconsin-Milwaukee) will join newcomer Carl Edwards (6'5", 215, College of Charleston) and Indiana's first-round draft pick J.J. Sullinger (6'5", 210, Ohio State). Fountain and Sullinger earned back-to-back "Player of the Week" honors in January 2007; and all four Alley Cats currently average better than 18 points per game, with Fountain's 23.2 ppg topping his teammates. Fountain also leads the American Conference in steals (3.0 spg), followed closely by his All-Star teammate Erick Barkley (2.8 spg); among Carl Edwards' accomplishments has been the 2006-07 single-game high for field goals made (17).
When Coach Richardson looks down his All-Star bench, he will see a trio of familiar faces, as the Albany Patroons sent three of their top performers to the All-Star Classic. Among the trio are guard T.J. Thompson (5'10", 180, George Washington), who currently leads the CBA in scoring with 24.8 points per game; forward Jamario Moon (6'8", 205, Meridian Community College of Kansas), whose 2.4 blocked shots per game is third-best in the league; and center Eric Williams (6'10", 260, UMass), who currently leads the league in free throw accuracy (93.4%) and leads the Patroons in rebounds (7.1 rpg). This is T.J. Thompson's second consecutive All-Star Classic appearance; Jamario Moon previously participated in the 2006 skills competition that preceded the All-Star Game.
Desmond Ferguson (6'7", 215, Detroit), who was previously named to the All-Star team in 2002, is one of two Minot Skyrockets on the American Conference squad. Ferguson, who scored 43 points on the first game of the season, currently leads the Skyrockets with 19.8 points per game; his teammate on the Skyrockets, forward Ray Cunningham (6'6", 220, Murray State) is among the league leaders in offensive rebounds (2.7 orpg) and, like Ferguson, averages better than 19 points per game.
The Pittsburgh Xplosion's lone representative on the All-Star squad is the team's leading scorer, rookie forward Kevin Pittsnogle (6'11", 255, West Virginia). Pittsnogle, who was taken in the first round of the 2006 CBA Draft by the Xplosion, is currently second in league scoring with 23.5 points per game, and has achieved a major consistency level by being the Xplosion's leading team scorer for eleven consecutive games. Pittsnogle has also set this year's single-game marks for most points (44) and most free throws made (15).
Jamario Moon and Shaun Fountain both received the most All-Star selection votes as cast by the league's coaches, front office staff, and media representatives.
