CBA decries Tim Hardaway comments

February 15, 2007 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release

ALBANY, NY (January 25, 2007) -The Continental Basketball Association decries the comments made by Tim Hardaway on February 14th's edition of Dan LeBatard's radio show, as broadcast on Miami radio station WAXY, in which Hardaway commented about the sexual orientation of former NBA center John Amaechi, who recently announced that he is gay. Hardaway is a member of Trinity Sports and Entertainment Group, which currently owns and operates the CBA's Indiana Alley Cats franchise.

"The CBA does not in any way condone or endorse the hateful comments made by Mr. Hardaway to ESPN yesterday," said Dennis Truax, Director of Basketball Operations for the CBA. "Mr. Hardaway's comments were unfortunate, hateful and are not the views of the CBA or any of its member teams. It is our fervent belief that any person should be allowed to participate in our league, regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, political preference or sexual orientation, without fear of reprisal or discrimination. The CBA is an equal opportunity employer, and Mr. Hardaway's comments have no effect or bearing on our position now or in the future. We do not share his views or support his position regarding Mr. Amaechi and his recent personnel revelations."
