Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry News Release

LAWTON, Okla. - The Lawton/Fort Sill Cavalry players volunteered at the Lawton chapter of the Boys and Girls Club of America Monday for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.

The players helped supply necessary maintenance, repair, upkeep, and cleanup efforts at the facility, including revitalization of the Homework Room, Fitness Room, Game Room and Art Room, as well as, the creation of a Teen Room.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service was initiated by Congress in 1994 to honor the legacy that, according to Dr. King, "Everybody can be great because everybody can serve." The federal holiday has been transformed into a national day of service in which communities across America choose to celebrate "a day on, not a day off."

Michael Ray Richardson, head coach for the Lawton/Fort Sill Cavs, said that the players are heroes on and off the court.

Richardson said, "The Cavs know how important it is to support the community that has shown so much support for them. They want to help build the community to be as strong as they are."
