Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry News Release
LAWTON, OKLA- Riverside Indian School's Boys basketball team experienced an Oklahoma Cavs basketball practice Wednesday afternoon.
The afternoon started with team warm-ups and stretches from baseline to baseline, and then the Cavs practiced different plays. The crowd of students got excited as they watched Center Tony Key dunk in one of the many drills the Cavs ran.
Braves players and coaches took notice that the drills, plays, and coaching were similar to how they practice.
"It's good for the team to see professional athletes being taught the same things. And it's good for me as a coach to hear the coaches saying the same thing," said Braves Head Coach James Kelley.
The Riverside Braves record this year is 1-11, but Head Coach Michael Ray Richardson and Assistant Coach Greg Minor gave advice and encouraged the team to work together and listen to their coaches to end the season successful.
Richardson gave them 3 points on how to achieve success this season. Number one was to accept criticism. Number two was to always give 100%, and number three was to listen and learn.
Asst. Coach Minor told the Braves team to always encourage one another and to know their specific role of the team.
"It was good for them to hear that. You'll always have to listen to someone, and you're never too old to learn," said Richardson.
The Cavs players and coach will make another appearance Friday afternoon at Eisenhower High School to talk about education and decision making.
