Caves and Silva on the Move

ABILENE, T.X. -- As the 2012 season winds down, the Prairie Dogs roster continues to shuffle. Prior to Tuesday's game with Fort Worth, catcher Chris Caves was traded to Peoria of the Freedom League, and Ray Silva was dealt to Grand Prairie of the American Association. In both cases, the Dogs will receive a player to be named later. To help rebuild, Abilene added infielder Clint Stroud.

Silva, who signed with the Prairie Dogs on June 14, posted a 4.29 E.R.A. in 20 relief appearances. The big righty from California collected seven saves and did not allow an earned run over his last four games with the Dogs.

Caves, acquired by the Abilene on June 15, caught and played right field over 48 games with the Dogs. Caves launched six homers with the club and knocked in 24 runs. However, in his last 60 at-bats, the Meza, Arizona native collected only five hits and struck out 27 times.

Stroud played with both the Edinburg Roadrunners and San Angelo Colts in 2011 but registered only 13 at-bats between the clubs. In 65 games with the Trinidad Triggers of the Pecos league in 2012, Stroud blasted seven round-trippers, knocked in 45 runs, and batted .351.

The Prairie Dogs continue a six-game home stand when they welcome the Fort Worth Cats for a 7:05 first pitch on Tuesday night. Tonight is Back to School Night at the ballpark. Students, faculty, staff, and administrators from any school can show a valid school identification and receive a $3 general admission ticket at the gate, the park opens at 6:00.
