
Cats sign Franke, Moore

The Fort Worth Cats today have signed left-handed pitcher Jared Franke and switch-hitting outfielder Kevin Moore.
Moore, 27, played for Lincoln and St. Paul of the Northern League last season, before finishing the year with Rockford in the Frontier League. Overall, he batted .214 with 4 HR and 21 RBI. He has been in independent ball since 1998 with stops in the Atlantic League, the Northeastern League, the Frontier League and the Northern League. His best season came with the Nashua Pride in 1999 where he batted .256 with 5 homers and 42 RBI in 100 games. Moore resides in Beverly Hills, Calif.
Franke, 22, pitched for UT-Dallas this spring posting a 7-2 record with a 5.34 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 54 innings of work. Following the season, he was named to the 2nd team all-American Southwest Conference. Franke attended Arlington High School and now resides in Plano.
To make room on the roster the Cats today released left-hander Mark Hickey, who pitched for the Cats last year and made one appearance out of the bullpen this season. Also released was outfielder Jim Cooney, who made the team out of spring training but did not appear in a game for the Cats.
