Cats release 2005 schedule

November 11, 2004 - Central Baseball League (Central League)
Fort Worth Cats News Release

The Fort Worth Cats announced today the team's schedule for the 2005 season. An Independence Day game at LaGrave Field highlights the Cats' 94-game Central Baseball League schedule. The Cats open the season on the road May 5 at Shreveport. The team's home opener is set for May 13 against the Pensacola Pelicans. The regular season runs through August 20 with the playoffs scheduled Aug. 22 - Sept. 3.

"We are excited about playing at home on the Fourth of July," said Cats general manager Monty Clegg. "Last season we had a crowd of over 8,000 on hand on Independence Day. In 2003, we set a CBL record for attendance with 9,217 on the Fourth of July. We've also let 500 fans sit on the left field warning track during the game the last couple of times we played on July 4.

"There are some major changes our fans will notice about the 2005 schedule. The league still has eight teams, but El Paso is replacing Amarillo. Instead of 96 regular season games we'll play 94 in 2005. They've done away with the two divisions, so it's eight teams under the CBL umbrella with four teams making the playoffs. We had a number of special events last season including retiring Duke Snider's Cats jersey. We'll retire another player's jersey in 2005 and we have a couple of unique promotions that we'll announce in the coming months. It's our goal to provide affordable family entertainment and to lead the league in attendance again."

The Cats have led the Central Baseball League in attendance three years in a row. Over 473,000 fans have come through the turnstiles at LaGrave Field since the ballpark opened in 2002.

The Central Baseball League will consist of eight teams in 2005. The league includes Coastal Bend (Robstown, TX), Edinburg, El Paso, Fort Worth, Jackson, Pensacola, San Angelo and Shreveport.
