'Cats give up 5 run lead, fall 8-7 to Armada

Edmonton, AB- The Cracker-Cats continued their second leg of this road trip in Long Beach tonight, falling to the Long Beach Armada 8-7.

Jorge DePaula, in his fourth start for Edmonton, had a very strong outing, going 7 innings, only giving up 6H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB with 8 strikeouts.

Rik Currier got the start for Long Beach. His final numbers were, 6.1IP, 6H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, with 7 strikeouts. He was relieved by left hander pitcher, Sean Buller, in the top of the seventh.

Marcus Nettles stole another base in the first inning, continuing to lead the league in that category, with 40 on the season.

The 'Cats were up 2-0 going into the top of the sixth inning, when the Armada received two runs, with two men out, to tie the game.

Ruddy Yan hit a single off Buller, to cash in another runner in the seventh, giving the 'Cats back their lead.

In the top of the eighth, the Cats scored four runs, including Jose Morban's second home run of the game. Jordan Lundberg hit a RBI single, to cash in Joe Jiannetti from second. Chris Van Rossum and Lundberg also came across the plate, giving Edmonton a five run lead.

Dan Touchet came into the game to relief DePaula in the bottom of the eighth. He battled, coming into a must win situation for the Armada, and gave up 5 runs, to even the score at seven.

Dave Humen pitched the ninth for the 'Cats. The right-hander walked in the game winning run to give the Armada a 8-7 victory.

The 'Cats are among the top three teams in the league in hitting and pitching averages, with a batting average of .323 and a team era of 5.48.

The Cracker-Cats second season record now sits at 19-12, 4.5 games up on Calgary for first place in the north division.

The 'Cats return home Tuesday, August 19th as they take on the Orange County Flyers. Game time is 7:05 pm.
