Fort Worth Cats News Release
The Fort Worth Cats came out on top of a back-and-forth, 6-5 battle to move one step closer to a United League Championship on Saturday night at LaGrave Field.
The Cats (2-1) brought the first run across in the fourth inning on a Mike Loseke wild pitch, but the Edinburg Roadrunners (1-2) tied it in the fifth when Carlton Salters scored on an errant throw by Ryan Miller.
In the fifth, the Roadrunners were ready to intentionally walk David Bergin to load the bases, but Bergin slapped the outside pitch into left-center field, scoring Ryan Miller from third to extend the lead. Chris Ellison then hit a sacrifice fly to left field to give the Cats the 3-1 lead.
After Edinburg chipped away to make it 3-2 in the top of the sixth, the Cats put three runs across in their half to make it a 6-2 lead.
However, the Roadrunners kept it close by matching the three runs to come within one.
Edinburg threatened again in the ninth as they put two men aboard with only one out. Cats' reliever Trevor Longfellow escaped the jam by getting Travis Clark to ground into the 6-4-3, game-ending double play to earn his first save of the postseason.
Cats' starting pitcher Will Krout went 6.1 innings and gave up four earned runs on nine hits and one walk.
With the win, the Cats are now one win away from capturing the United League Championship.
Game four will take place on Sunday at 6:05 p.m. It will be a "blue-out" at LaGrave as fans are encouraged to wear blue attire to cheer the Cats to a championship victory.
Tickets to the game can be purchased by calling (817) 332-CATS or by going online to FWCats.com.
