Fort Worth Cats News Release

The Fort Worth Cats dropped one game below .500 after losing two games against the Brownsville Charros, 7-1 and 14-4.

After being rained out on Sunday night, the Cats and Charros resumed play from the fifth inning with two outs and two Charros on with the score at 6-1. Trent Montgomery went four innings after giving up a grand slam to Dan Coury in the fourth.

The Cats played game three of the series 30 minutes after game two concluded. Things were going smoothly until the third inning when starter Charlie Hajny let in three runs (two earned) before being pulled with two outs. Jeff Sakowski came on in relief and allowed six runs over one and two thirds innings. The Charros had complete control of the game until the end of the seven inning game, beating the Cats 14-4.

Throughout the second game of the day, every starter in the Charros line up scored at least once.

The Cats rallied to score their four runs in the fifth inning by leading off with two walks followed by three hits. Greg Denton came on to relieve the starter Vanderlaan and threw three quick outs.

Julio Franco's five game hitting streak came to an end as the Cats' veteran went 0-for-7 in the two games Monday evening.

The Cats resume play Tuesday night when they face off against the San Angelo Colts for the first time this season. First pitch is at 7:05 at LaGrave Field.
