Cats acquire first baseman Blase

The Fort Worth Cats today acquired first baseman Blake Blase from Mid-Missouri of the Frontier League in exchange for outfielder Eli Albertson.

Blase, 23, batted .250 with 17 home runs and 58 RBI in 90 games for the Mavericks in 2004. He split the 2003 season between Battle Creek in the Midwest League and Mid-Missouri.

Blase, a left-handed hitter, was selected by the Yankees in the 13th round of the 2002 draft and played 21 games for Class A Staten Island in the New York-Penn League later that summer.

Born in St. Louis, Blase attended Jefferson (Missouri) Community College.

Albertson spent two seasons in Fort Worth, appearing in 106 games for the Cats. He played in 69 games in 2004 and batted .264 with five homers and 30 RBI.
