Catching up with Dominic Savoie

Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Dominic Savoie, who played for the Quebec Remparts in 2009-2010, is fondly remembered as MAINEiacs Right Wing #25, playing with us in the 2007-08 season as well as the 2008-09 season. He recently gave MAINEiacs fans an update.

Where are you playing this year?

I'm actually playing in the BCHL for the Nanaimo Clippers, on Vancouver Island. I had nowhere to go other than jr aaa in Quebec, but I still wanted to play a high level of hockey and maybe be seen for who I am somewhere else. It's a new beginning, even though it is my last junior year.

What is your favorite memory as a MAINEiac?

The first hat trick I scored in the QMJHL, which was March 5th, 2009 (I think it's the right date). I still remember that like it happened yesterday! (For the record, Savoie's hat trick came on 3/6/09, in a 5-3 win over the PEI Rocket. At the time, Dominic was amazingly doubling as a defenseman).

Have you been able to see your billets since leaving Lewiston?

I had the chance to visit my billet in Maine the next year on a trip with the Quebec Remparts. We went out to dinner, and it felt good to see them. They also came over to Montreal last summer, and we had a great time - I finally had the chance to open my house for them like they did for me. When you meet great people like that you want to keep them. I'm planning a trip to Lewiston next summer.

Do you stay in touch with any former MAINEiacs teammates?

I still hang out with Bill Lacasse and Sam Finn in the summer. We always enjoy our time together. I mostly talk to former teammates on the computer, whenever we are online at the same time. I worked out with Adrien Lemay last summer. It's always fun to see former teammates anywhere you go. I saw both Chaputs at some ball hockey games. I have some more stories like these, and it is always a pleasure to see where they play hockey or what they are studying.

-Thank you Dominic for taking the time to reconnect with Lewiston fans! All our best to you in Nanaimo!*

*Since this interview, Dominic was traded to the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. The Storm, with a more competitive season ahead than The Clippers, are a better scouted team - we're crossing our fingers for you Dominic!!
