Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks needed an extra inning to beat Inland Empire Saturday, beating the 66ers, 5-4, in ten innings at The Hangar. Luis Castro drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the tenth inning.
Lancaster (33-34) held Inland Empire scoreless in the top of the tenth inning. Nick Kennedy (1-2) induced a double play to end the inning, setting the stage for a walk-off win.
In the bottom of the tenth, Matt Hearn put men on the corners with a bunt single. Luis Castro did the rest, driving in Austin Bernard with a sacrifice fly to centerfield off of Austin Warren (2-6). The victory was Lancaster's fourth walk-off win of the season.
Castro drove in three runs Saturday, giving him 51 on the season. He gave the JetHawks a two-run lead in the sixth inning with a two-run home run, his 16th of 2019.
Inland Empire (26-42) hit four solo home runs in the game, giving them 15 over the first four games of the series. Gareth Morgan hit one in the eighth, and Brett Bond tied the game with a ninth-inning home run in his Cal League debut.
Garrett Schilling turned in another stellar start. He allowed two runs in seven innings while striking out nine. In three June starts, Schilling has given up just two runs in 20 innings.
The JetHawks have an opportunity to even their record with a win Sunday. They close out a five-game series against the 66ers prior to the All-Star Break.
Lancaster and Inland Empire finish up the five-game set on Father's Day. Antonio Santos (3-3) takes the mound for the JetHawks against Aaron Hernandez (0-1). First pitch Sunday is 2:05 pm.
