Carter Returns for Second Season with Steeldogs

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Birmingham Steeldogs have announced that they have been assigned WR/DB Demontray Carter.

This will be Carter's second season with the Steeldogs. In 15 games during his rookie campaign last season, he finished the year as the team's leading rusher with 87 yards and five touchdowns while also grabbing 37 receptions for 446 yards and 10 touchdowns. In addition, Carter handled kick return duties and ran for 478 yards on 23 returns with three touchdowns. On May 3, 2003, Carter tied a team mark with a 58-yard kickoff return for touchdown.

Prior to joining the Steeldogs, Carter was a highly recruited tailback out of Pensacola. During his senior season of prep ball, he rushed for 462 yards in a single game the second highest output in Florida High School history. Carter spent two seasons on the plains with the Auburn Tigers, amassing 711 yards on 165 carries with four touchdowns. Following his sophomore season, Carter transferred to Troy State and led the Trojans his junior year with 801 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.

"The coaching staff and I felt that Demontray was one of our most improved players as the season went along", said Steeldogs Head Coach Bobby Humphrey. "With a year under his belt and having learned the intricacies of the arena game we expect Demontray to have a breakout year."
