Carson Porter Appointed Hammerheads Technical Director

Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads and the Capelli Sports Group are pleased to announce appointment of Carson Porter to the position of Technical Director of the Wilmington Hammerheads/Capelli Sports. Carson joins the Hammerheads after spending the past 3 years as a Technical Advisor and National Staff Coach for the United States Soccer Federation. In his role at U.S. Soccer he helped scout, manage and oversee the United States Development Academy, a league run by U.S. Soccer that aims to provide a platform for the top youth players in the U.S. to compete.

Carson also served as an assistant coach for the U-14 and U-15 U.S. Youth National Teams, and most recently has spent the last year as the assistant coach with the U-18 Men's National Team. In his role with U.S. Soccer he has travelled extensively, gaining great experiences in international tournaments throughout the world. He most recently was part of the staff that took the U.S. U-18 team to an international tournament in Lisbon, Portugal where they competed against Sweden, Norway and Portugal.

Prior to his time with the U.S. Soccer Federation, Carson was involved in the college game. His most successful stint came as the Assistant Coach at Wake Forest from 2004-2008. During his time at Wake Forest the team went to 3 consecutive College Cup appearances (2006, 2007, 2008), winning the NCAA National Championship in 2007. For his work at Wake Forest, Carson was honored in 2008 as the National Assistant Coach of the Year by the NCAA.

Carson will help and support the first team staff, working directly with Head Coach, David Irving and General Manager, Jason Arnold on player personnel decisions, club philosophy, curriculum and the planning of training sessions. He will also work with the youth club in a supportive role as the partnership aims to provide the best soccer experience possible for the youth of Wilmington.

Carson, who is originally from Charlotte, NC, played college soccer at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill from 1997-2001. He returns to North Carolina after working for U.S. Soccer in Denver, CO and New York, NY. He is married to Jenna Porter also originally from Charlotte, NC.
