Carruth Selected in NHL Entry Draft

WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild is pleased to announce that former goaltender Mac Carruth (Shorewood, Minn.) was selected in the seventh round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday by the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks selected Carruth with the 11th pick in the seventh round, the 191st overall selection in the 2010 draft, which was held at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

"It's exciting to see Mac go in the NHL draft this year," said Ryan McKelvie, Wild associate head coach. "He's an extremely competitive player with exceptional skill."

Carruth played in 42 regular-season games with the Wild during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. In 2008-09, Carruth went 18-7-1 with a goals-against average of 3.04 and a save percentage of .904. He went 2-2 with a goals-against average of 3.88 during the Wild's run in the 2009 Robertson Cup Playoffs.

Carruth began the 2009-10 season with the Wild. He went 11-4 with a goals-against average of 2.42 and a save percentage of .911. Carruth was named the MVP of the NAHL Showcase Tournament in Sept., after he helped the Wild win the tournament title. He went 3-0 at the tournament, turning aside 74 of the 76 shots he faced. Carruth was also named the Sherbrook/NAHL Goalie of the Week on Sept. 22, after his efforts at the tournament.

Carruth went on to finish the 2009-10 season with the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He saw action in 26 regular-season games with Portland, posting a record of 14-9-1 with a goals-against average of 3.41 and save percentage of .893. Carruth also played in 11 playoff games with the Winterhawks in 2010, posting a 5-4 record with a goals-against average of 3.81 and a save percentage of .892.

"Mac's got the potential to be a great goalie," McKelvie said, "and I hope to see him fulfill his dream of playing in the NHL someday."

Overall, 16 former North American Hockey League (NAHL) players were selected in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
