GREENVILLE, SC – The arenafootball2’s Carolina Rhinos lost 56-32 at home to the Eastern Division leading Augusta Stallions Saturday. The loss snapped the Rhinos’ two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 2-4. Augusta improved to a League-leading 6-0 with the win.

The game looked as if it would be a defensive struggle with Augusta holding just an 8-7 lead by the end of the first quarter, but the Stallions were up 28-14 by half time and 42-14 to start the fourth quarter holding the Rhinos off the scoreboard in the third frame.

The Rhinos grabbed a 7-0 lead, and early momentum, on a fourth-down, one-yard touchdown run by Caleb Slover 2:52 into the game, but Augusta scored 42 of the gameÂ’s next 49 points. The Rhinos narrowed the gap with a pair of touchdowns in the gameÂ’s final 2:26 but also surrendered a StallionsÂ’ scoring strike in between.

Miscues hurt the Rhinos who threw a pair of interceptions and slowed themselves down with 50 yards in penalties. They also missed four field goals although they were all long-distance attempts.

Glenn Gauntt led the Augusta attack completing 18 passes for 284 yards and five touchdowns. Gauntt also rushed for one touchdown. Chris Johnson hauled in five receptions for 104 yards and three touchdowns while Undre Williams and Tim Dumas posted receiving totals of 69 yards and two touchdowns and 64 yards and one touchdown respectively for the Stallions.

Slover completed 15 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns but was also intercepted twice. Robert Garth, Cliff Shavers and May Lawyer caught one touchdown apiece while Rasheed rushed for a score for the Rhinos.

Gauntt was named the gameÂ’s most valuable player, Williams took the Ironman award, Dumas was the Built Ford Tough Player of the Game while their Augusta teammate LaVar Rainey was named ADT Defensive Player of the Game.

The Rhinos will visit the Norfolk Nighthawks next Saturday May the 25th in a game that will be broadcast on 1070 “The Sportszone” WCSZ-AM and at rhinosfootball.com while Augusta will host the Charleston Swamp Foxes next Friday May the 24th.
