Carolina Courage News Release

World Class Reinforcements Arrive: The Courage will receive a boost this week, when defender Carla Overbeck and forward Birgit Prinz step into the starting lineup. Overbeck saw her first action of this WUSA season on Saturday when she checked into the game as a substitute in the 66th minute. Prinz arrived from Germany on Saturday, joining the team shortly after the Philadelphia match was underway.

What the Stats Say:

Power Vulnerable Late in the Match: This season, the Power has allowed four goals, in four separate games, after the 80th minute. Two of these goals have resulted in last minute losses. In 21 games last season, the Power allowed 10 goals after the 80th minute.

Match-up To Watch: Courage defender Danielle Slaton vs. Power forward Tiffeny Milbrett. This game will pit the U.S. National Team's top rising defender vs. the WUSA's MVP in 2001.

Coach's Keys To Winning:

"We want to get our wing backs forward and force the Power to defend. Obviously, we will need to contain Tiffeny Milbrett, but their whole attack is explosive. It will be critical to put pressure on service, and not allow them to launch their dynamic personalities."

Team Notes

Prinz To Make Her WUSA Debut: The Courage's top off-season signing, Germany's Birgit Prinz will see her first action in the WUSA on Saturday.

Switching Teams: There will be some familiar faces on the opposing benches for both teams, when Carolina hosts New York. Power Assistant Coach Zac Shaw performed goalkeeping coach's duties for the Courage in 2001 and Carolina midfielder Nel Fettig led New York in minutes played last season.
