Trenton, NJ - Dan Carney (7) scored his second game-winning goal in as many nights and David St. Germain stopped 36 shots as the Trenton Titans (44-15-10) clinched their second consecutive Northeast Division title with a 4-1 win last night over the Roanoke Express (34-25-11) at the Sovereign Bank Arena.
Rick Kowalsky scored his 34th goal of the season at 5:51 of the first period to give the Express a 1-0 lead. The Titans came back the following shift as Chris Lynch (1) netted his first professional goal to tie the score. Carney took a pass in the neutral zone, and on a 2-on-1 rush fired a shot between the legs of Daniel Berthiaume for a 2-1 Titans lead at 7:56 of the second period. Matt Zultek (15) and Scott Bertoli (23) added power play goals 1:22 apart to close out the scoring in the second period and the game. The Express finished with 37 shots in the game and held the Titans to a season-low 14. Roanoke clinched the final playoff spot in the Northeast Division with Richmond's 4-1 loss to Greensboro.
The Titans host Richmond on Wednesday night at 7 pm.
