Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, FL- The Clearwater Threshers blanked the Palm Beach Cardinals 3-0 Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium.
Clearwater was able to capitalize on key mishaps by Palm Beach, scoring two of their three runs on fielding errors. The first of which came with one out in the top of third. Up 1-0, man on third and 1 out, Threshers Carlos Alonso hit a towering pop fly that second baseman Colin Walsh dropped resulting in a 2-0 lead for Clearwater.
Threshers would pad their lead in the 8th when they scored on a misplayed relay by Cards' third baseman Danny Stienstra.
The hard luck loser tonight was Cardinals starting pitcher Tim Cooney. Cooney pieced together one of his best starts of the season in front of an announced crowd of 645. The Wake Forest University product tossed 7 innings, gave up four hits, one ER, struck out six and walked none. On the season, Cooney has now thrown 36 innings where he has given up a mere 4 walks. He now sits on an impressive BB/9IP ratio of 1.00, good enough for 2nd among starting pitchers of the FSL.
Despite outhitting Clearwater 8-6, Palm Beach could not buy an extra-base hit as all 8 hits were singles. Jonathan Rodriguez (2-4) and Ronny Gil (2-3) combined for 4 of those singles on the night.
Palm Beach will take on Clearwater tomorrow, 6:35 p.m. at Roger Dean Stadium for the final game of their 4 game series.
WP: Milner (4-2) LP: Cooney (3-3) S: Murray (3)
