
Captains Even Series Behind Four Longballs

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains (26-24) blasted four home runs to defeat the West Michigan Whitecaps (23-28) 9-2 on a cloudy 70-degree Sunday afternoon at Classic Park. Lake County donned the Picantes de Lake County lime green uniforms and are now 3-0 in them.
Tommy Mace was activated off the IL and made the start. He threw a 16 pitch first inning, getting three outs on a strikeout, flyout and groundout. The right-hander would walk three in the second helping the Whitecaps go up 1-0. Raymond Burgos finished the inning and retired the Whitecaps 1-2-3 in the third inning.
Lake County even up the score, in the home half of the second after Gabriel Rodriguez launched a home run over the left field bleachers his third of the season.
In the next inning, Angel Martinez delivered home run number two of the game and of his season belting a ball deep to right field, putting the Captains ahead 2-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, the game was broke open. After a lead-off single by Micael Ramirez, Martinez doubled down the right field line. Jhonkensy Noel was intentionally walked to load the bases for Alexfri Planez. Planez belted a ball to deep left field for a Grand Slam, making it a 6-1 lead. Planez now has his two home run in his 19 games played.
Lenny Torres in relief would keep the Whitecaps from reaching base from the fourth through the sixth inning. Torres issued only one walk in the seventh and completed the frame without a hit. Torres threw four scoreless innings matching a season-high, getting six groundouts, five flyouts and a strikeout.
In the seventh and eight, Lake County further distanced themselves. The seventh saw Angel Martinez's third hit and second homer a towering shot to deep right field, making it a 7-1 advantage. The eighth, saw an RBI single for Micael Ramirez and Martinez with a fielder's choice that plated Christian Cairo.
Matt Turner and Damon Casetta-Stubbs put the finishing touches on the contest, with Turner forcing a 5-4-3 double play and Casetta-Stubs working around the first two batters getting on with two strikeouts.
Following an off-day, Lake County will head to Fort Wayne to face the TinCaps on Tuesday June 7 to begin a six-game road series. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.
