Edmonton Capitals News Release
Wailuku, HA - Centre fielder Ryan Stevenson's solo home run in the top of the sixth held up as the winning run for the Edmonton Capitals on Wednesday, as they edged the Maui Na Koa Ikaika 5-4 in their third of seven straight games in Hawaii.
With the Caps leading 4-3, Stevenson blasted a two-out homer off Maui pitcher David Seccombe to put the visitors up 5-3. Maui replied with one run of their own in the sixth, but Edmonton's pitchers shut the door from there to preserve the victory.
Starting pitcher Daryl Arreola improved to 2-0 as a member of the Caps and 9-1 on the 2010 Golden Baseball League season, as he threw seven innings and scattered eight hits and four runs with six strikeouts. Closer Chad Blackwell earned his league-leading 13th save with a three-up-three-down ninth inning.
In addition to Stevenson's big blast, third baseman Alex Prieto also belted a solo home run in the victory. First baseman Cliff Brumbaugh was also integral at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI, while left fielder Larry Bigbie went 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI. Short stop Enrique Cruz had the most hits on the night, going 3-for-5 and scoring one run.
