Edmonton Capitals News Release

Calgary, AB - The Edmonton Capitals saw their season come to an end in Calgary after Game Four of the North Division Championship on Saturday evening. Although the Capitals jumped out to a first inning, five-run lead, Calgary rallied in the ninth to score twice, defeating the Caps 8-7 and advancing the Vipers to the Golden Baseball League Championship. Calgary will now await the winner of the Tucson-St. George South Division Championship.

Trailing by a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, Calgary's Wilver Perez led off with a home run to tie the score at 7-7. Following a strikeout, Viper outfielder Colin Moro singled off Caps closer Jason Pearson. After a second strikeout, Viper second baseman Jorge Mejia hit a double that scored the winning run. Moro was running on the 3-2 count with two outs, which allowed him to score from first base.

Evan Greusel (1-0) picked up the win for Calgary in relief. Greusel threw 3.2 innings and kept the Capitals off the board after Edmonton had touched up Calgary starter Joe Sergent for seven runs on ten hits in 5.1 innings pitched. Jason Pearson (0-1) took the loss for the Capitals as both ninth inning runs were charged to him. The Capitals used four pitchers on the evening including Lou Pote who started on just three days rest.
