Toros Shutout By Roadrunners 1-0 In Game 3
September 5, 2009 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release
Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Toros were on the wrong end of a 1-0 pitchers duel, as they were shutout by the St. George Roadrunners in Game 3 of the GBL Southern Divisional Series. With the loss, Tucson now trails in the series 2-1 and will need wins both Sunday and Monday against St. George to advance to the GBL Championship Series.
The story of the game was the magnificent pitching and defense by both teams, leading to a rare game with zero earned runs. Roadrunner Starter David Seccombe threw 8 scoreless innings to earn the win before ceding to Julio Castro to close it out in the 9th for his second save of the post season.
On the Toros side, Lefty Vince Davis matched Seccombe with 8 innings of his own. However, his own throwing error in the 5th inning led to the only run of the game.
Tucson had their best scoring chances early, with a pair of runners on in each of the first two innings, but were unable to come through with the big hit. St. George's pitching really kicked in from that point on, as Tucson managed just 3 baserunners after the 2nd frame.
The Toros will host the Roadrunners once again in a must win situation for Game 4 on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at Hi Corbett Field. The game will be able to be heard live on COOL 1450 AM or online at www.tucsontoros.com.
