
Caps Bats Come Alive In Game Three

Calgary, Alberta- Earlier this season Capitals manager Brent Bowers stated: "It's never over in the Golden (Baseball) League. That's the golden rule." The Capitals followed their manager's words with a come from behind victory in game three of the North Division finals. The Caps defeated the Vipers 13-6 to secure their first ever playoff win and ensure a game four tomorrow afternoon in Calgary.
Caps starter Chris Little pitched well, giving up only two earned runs in six inning of work. He struck out four Vipers but received a no decision. The Capitals got solo home runs from Kevin House and Jorge Cortes and were up 3-1 halfway through the fifth inning. The Vipers went ahead 5-3 in the bottom of the six with three runs and the Capitals responded with two runs in top of the seven to tie the game. Kevin House scored on a double steal and Joey Gomes singled home Jose Morban right after. Both runs in the inning were scored with two outs.
The Capitals took the lead for good in the eight after four straight singles, including RBI singles by leadoff hitter Jorge Cortes and Kevin House. Edmonton added some insurance in the top of the ninth with a bases loaded walk by John Pasieka and a two run single by Jorge Cortes. Darryl Brinkley capped the inning with a three run homerun on the first pitch he saw from reliever Travis Hughes.
Todd Privett (1-0) picked up the win for the Capitals and Pete Sikaras (0-1) suffered the loss for the Vipers. Caps closer, Jason Pearson picked up the save pitching 1 2/3 innings. Edmonton pounded out 19 hits including three for six nights by Jorge Cortes and Kevin House.
The Capitals and Vipers will play game four of the North Division final tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in Calgary. The Capitals will send Lou Pote to the mound and Calgary will counter with Joe Sergent. Both pitchers started game one and will be pitching on three days rest.
